Sea day #5

The ship continued its rolling all night, as it negotiated four and five meter high waves crossing the Bay of Biscay. The rolling did not bother us, we slept well. It took a little adjustment this morning moving around the stateroom. You would head in a direction going downhill and the next step you were going uphill.  Being in a Deck 9 balcony room rather a lower deck (3 or 4) inside room, there is a lot more noticeable swing to the ship. After more than 20 cruises, we can cope with the ship’s rolling motion. The geographical location this morning was 48°17.70’ N and 5°34.06’ W as Anthem approaches the western tip of France to leave the Bay of Biscay and entered the English Channel.

Before breakfast, Larry checked on Deck 3 where the notice from last night said COVID testing would be done and was told the policy had changed and all passengers continuing on the next cruise now needed to have a COVID test. On the way to breakfast we stopped and had the COVID tests done and then went to breakfast in Silk for the buffet. At shortly after 8 there were only a dozen guests there.

After breakfast we went to the photo gallery to check our photos from last night and the ones taken on the pier in Tenerife.  We chose one each, which is another complimentary Diamond Club benefit.

Back at the stateroom, we still had three hours of Internet left. A chance to read the Saturday newspaper.

Just after 10 a.m., the phone rang. It was the ship’s doctor reporting that Claire had tested positive, but Larry was negative. After asking some questions, the doctor advised us that Larry was free to leave the stateroom, but Claire was now in quarantine for the next five days, today being Day 0. Larry will be tested tomorrow and every day until Claire tests negative two days in a row then her quarantine will be over. A medical team person will also come in the morning to check Claire’s temperature and oxygen level daily. On Day 5 another test will be given to Claire. It means that Claire will not be getting off the ship when it visits Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal on October 21, which is Day 5. For the first seven days of the next cruise, six will be Sea Days. Before stops in Halifax and Boston ending in Cape Liberty, Bayonne, New Jersey.

The policy for COVID passengers is that their ship reserved onshore excursion fees will be refunded and the passenger will receive “a Future Cruise credit based on the value of time spent in quarantine”. So counting today that should be one day of credit for this cruise, then at least six days of cruise credits for the next cruise. Other allowances that will be made while in quarantine are: complimentary internet, on demand movies and room services meals from the Room Service menu or from any menu, including specialty restaurants can be ordered.

For lunch today Larry brought back salad and wraps from Two70° café and then went back down to Deck 4 to get macchiato coffees from the Diamond Club and some cookies. When we looked out the visibility was poor in drizzle for most of the afternoon. I ordered main dining room items that took about an hour to be delivered. Larry had dinner in the dining room with Sue and John and said good-bye to our fun tablemates for the past 12 days. He also said farewell to the wait staff since we changed to a Deck 3 dining room for the next cruise for a change of scenery. There are four dining rooms from which to choose. Larry saw the final Headliner show at 7 p.m. then brought our night caps back to the stateroom.  Room Service phoned after dinner to ask me what I wanted for breakfast and when, between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m., I would like it delivered. Another phone came from the person who will arrive at 8 a.m. to perform Larry’s supervised COVID test. It will be at the same time for the next five days. We had to pack our suitcases, but only with items from drawers. The clothes on hangars will be taken to the new stateroom by a stateroom attendant who will take the new room’s empty hangars back to our former room.  We still do not know what process will be used for me to sign off this cruise with the current key card and then receive the new key card after our vaccine status and passports are checked. I can phone Guest Services in the morning.

By 11 p.m. the ship was some distance from the French coast town of Cherbourg.
