October 29 The journey home

     Anthem of the Seas was docked in Cape Liberty by 6 a.m. Anthem’s voyage from Southampton to Cape Liberty was 4,254 nautical miles (7,878 km). Several hundred nautical miles were added to the original plan because of diverting our course because of bad weather.     We were awake before 5 a.m., breakfast venues opened early. On Deck 4 the Promenade Café opened at 6 a.m. while La Patisserie café and restaurants American Icon and Silk at 6:30. Up on Deck 14 the large buffet, Windjammer, opened at 5:30 but the small Solarium café opened at 6:30. People started leaving the ship at 6:45 a.m.    The sky was clear as the sun rose at 7:23 a.m., there was a light wind and temperature was 6° C, the same temperature as at home. We went to the Solarium for breakfast and watched the Enchanted Princess cruise ship, which was coming from Halifax, go to her dock on the Manhattan side of the Hudson River.      Our Tag number was 25 for disembarki...

October 28 Sea day #8

During the night the white gulls were swooping and darting in the ship’s slipstream, but they were gone by sunrise. Today was Sea Day # 8, the final one, as we are travelling to Cape Liberty, New Jersey, our final destination.    Morning coordinates were 40°37.01’ N and 69°09.69’ W, on course 221° at sunrise, travelling at 10.8 knots. Cape Cod, Massachusetts was passed during the night. Morning temperature was 12° C, wind was NE19 km and it was sunny with some clouds. The waves were about one and a half meters high.   We went to Silk for breakfast, which was not a buffet this cruise, only ordering from a breakfast menu was available. After breakfast. we ordered our complimentary photos, one each, from the formal night photos and the port photos taken in Ponta Delgada, Azores and Boston. October 27 Boston

    Claire was awake around 4 a.m. and looked to see some distant lights on shore and stars in the sky. The fog had finally dissipated. She saw some white things moving against the water and upon a closer look realized there were at least a dozen white gulls “playing” in the slipstream of the ship.   Last time we saw something like it was near the southern tip of Chile on a cruise.    Morning coordinates were 42°20.58’ N and 71°02.03’ W, on course 269° when Anthem had docked It was   sunny, temperature was 15° C and wind about 12 km/hr. Anthem was docked at Pier 4.    Anthem was docked at Boston, Massachusetts by 7:30 a.m. near the container port. We had breakfast at the buffet in Two70° before our time slot for US Immigration. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection boarded shortly after docking and were directed to Deck 3 where the immigration process was held.
