October 24 Sea day #6
This is Sea Day #6. Just one more day until we arrive in Halifax. Claire awoke a bit dizzy, she could tell the ship was steady, but she felt quite lightheaded for about 30 minutes, worse than the roughest sea day.
At sunrise the ships geographical location was 43°28.82’ N and 52°50.58’ W, on course 284. Anthem has travelled 2,947 nm since Southampton. There were one meter ripples in the ocean today. It was windy, about 65 km per hour, which made 13° C feel quite cool, even though the sun was shining.
We ate a light breakfast in Two70° and checked the library and there were game sheets with the usual five question trivia quiz, a word search, which gives you one or two of the answers to the quiz and a sudoku. Answers are on the reverse side. Some days there does not seem to be any when we check between 9 and 11. This morning’s sheet was #7 and it is Day 8 of the cruise. One of the trivia questions was: “Who was the inventor of the folding bed and the swivel chair?” We checked in the afternoon and the Day 8 sheets were there.
We walked on Deck 15 for four laps and then went to the Seaplex to warm up. There was a pickle ball game being played and one person was explaining the game to two of the other three players. After ten minutes we walked another 2 laps and called it quits. Each lap was 758 steps. We had accumulated 7,866 steps by 10:30 a.m. Then dropped off our jackets in the stateroom on the way down to Deck 4 to get macchiatos in the Diamond Club.
BBC News announced that Britain has a new Prime Minister – former British treasury chief Rishi Sunak. He formerly has to be asked to form a government by King Charles after Liz Truss formally tells King Charles that she is resigning.
We went to the Next Cruise presentation about One Way cruises, including Transatlantic and Transpacific cruises. There were two door prizes, neither of which we won.
We had lunch at Sorrento’s Pizza on Deck 4. Besides pizza slices, they have salads and today mussels with salsa. After lunch, former stunt man, Douglas Vermeeren, gave his talk ”I Almost Died and It Was Fun”. Later in the afternoon, we had milkshakes from Johnny Rockets on Deck 14. The outside temperature was still 13° C, it was still windy and cloud had started to arrive. There were people sitting around the pool deck huddling under their towels.
We went to the Music Hall shortly after 5 pm. for the pre-recorded ballroom dance music and for the second time this voyage there was no ballroom music. We decided to go to the Photo Gallery to view the photos taken in the past few days. Part of the Diamond benefit is that we each get a complimentary photo. We will wait until after Boston before choosing one each. It was just the four of us for dinner this evening. There was a bit of talk about Britain’s new PM. The Headliner show tonight was Las Vegas Tenors. When we returned to the stateroom, there was another towel creation stretched out on the bed. At 10 p.m. Anthem was passing to the north of Sable Island known for its wild horses.
Tomorrow Anthem docks in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are meeting Claire’s former colleague, with whom she worked over 40 years ago, and her husband for lunch.
Quiz answer: Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States.
Total steps 14,833
